Prep School

After Prep 1 junior the children naturally progress to the Prep 1 Class based at our Prep School building, this group is also led by a qualified teacher. Everything for yourself and your child remains the same as it did in the nursery building such as hours, fees and importance of the early education. One of the main benefits of staying with us for the final nursery year is you don’t have to worry about shorter school days or school holidays as we still provide the wrap around care.

Activities are planned around the Prep 1 Curriculum as well as the children’s interests and we maintain the careful balance between child led and adult led learning. However, there is much more of a focus on securing core Maths & Literacy skills within this age group and building on what they have previously learnt in Prep 1 Junior. The qualified teacher works with children 1:1 and in groups to develop the children’s understanding of key concepts. The teacher continues to use Read Write Inc to engage children in reading and writing through fun phonics activities; we have found this scheme to be a huge success and children quickly begin to achieve and take pride in their new found abilities!

Children become very independent by this age and although it can be a little emotional to see them grow up so quickly, it really is essential in their ‘school readiness’; this will allow them to move on to our Prep 2 class (reception) or a state school with confidence and ease as they are prepared and able for the challenges they will face!

When the time comes for the children to progress into the Prep 2 class they are very much known by the teacher and all the other pupils as it really is a family feel school.
