Butterflies
At around 18 months your child will make the transition into our Butterflies group. As the room itself only holds a maximum number of nine children at any one time this means we have a close knit team of staff who know their children and personal preferences extremely well. Butterflies runs in much the same way as our very youngest group. There is still the strong focus on nurture and care as is required by the very young age of the children. The EYFS forms the basis of the curriculum within this age group and the focus, at this early age, still lies with the three Prime Areas (Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication & Language). The learning opportunities provided daily allow the children to develop across all aspects of the EYFS Curriculum. Staff carefully observe what the children enjoy doing and build upon this to ensure that the room is always stimulating and reflective of the children’s interests. The rich variety of resources keeps our children busy, engaging in lots of different play all day. In Butterflies we appreciate that most of our children have now found their feet and just want to be up, about and moving! Therefore we ensure that we provide plenty of opportunities for movement both indoors and out. We also nurture our young children’s natural curiosity and have lots of sensory and heuristic activities available for the children to explore. There is also a huge focus on developing social skills in this age group. Children gradually become more confident, independent and develop sharing skills and friendly behaviour through careful support and encouragement of the staff. Children also participate in short circle time activities where they share their favourite stories and songs as a group. These are always popular and the children love choosing which story is going to be read with their friends.  Typically this age of children are picking up new vocabulary and linking words together to form short, simple sentences and make verbal requests. We see the children begin to chatter with each other in play and begin to build friendships. Interactions with children of this age group are always lovely! Butterflies is a lively and busy group with such active and enthusiastic children but there is always lots of fun, excitement and learning to be had!
